Once again El Gato Negro is delighted to be supporting Hospitality Action’s Northern Polo Day fundraiser on Sunday 24 June. Held at the beautiful Cheshire Polo Club in Little Budworth, near Tarporley, this is a brilliant opportunity to raise funds for our leading industry charity.

Simon is one of three award-winning chefs from the North West (alongside Andrew Nutter of Nutter’s Restaurant and Sean Sutton, Head Chef at The Alderley Restaurant) who are contributing a superb three course meal for guests to accompany an afternoon of polo. After the success of last year’s inaugural event Simon says

Last year’s Charity Polo event was a brilliant day and I’m really happy to re-join forces with Andrew and Sean for round two. Hospitality Action is a great organisation, providing invaluable support to hundreds of people in the industry year after year. They can only do this with the help of generous fundraisers however and so we ask everyone to get behind the event and dig deep so that we can smash last year’s figure!

The event begins with a drink and canapé reception on the lawns of the prestigious Cheshire Polo Club, before the chef’s lunch is prepared. Guests will then watch a fabulous fast-paced polo match prior to ending the day with an afternoon cream tea in the marquee. It promises to be a glorious celebration of the best of British gastronomy and tradition.

The lunch menu comprises
  • Andrew Nutter’s starter: Pan-seared sea bass with lemon and fermented black garlic, heritage potato, samphire and sauce vierge dressing.
  • Sean Sutton’s main: Aged sirloin of Cumbria beef, smoked cheek and black truffle jus
  • Simon Shaw’ dessert: Classic lemon tart with fresh raspberries and Italian meringue

With the support of three of the region’s top chefs, it’s set to be a fantastic day, full of great gastronomy and entertainment, all while helping to raise money for those in the industry who need it most.

As usual, we don’t offer a specific Christmas-themed dishes on our menu… our customers have told us they’d prefer to enjoy our normal menu during these festive times! However since early autumn we’ve expanded our dining options across all three floors, so there’s more to room to savour those flavours. During December we’re serving every day from 12:00 until 22:00. We ask for 24 hours notice of a cancellation or reduction in numbers and reservations that fail to give this notice will automatically incur a £15pp fee. You will only be charged if the cancellation terms are not met.

Drinks

We’re serving a special cocktail throughout December; the Clemen-Time. A cocktail version of that Christmas stocking staple – the chocolate orange – it’s crafted from Spanish brandy, Clement Rhum Créole Shrubb and Mozart dark chocolate liqueur. Perfect festive cheer in a glass.

We’re also serving up a selection of specially selected gin and tonics this month, chosen by our team to represent an aspect of their influence or background. Keep an eye on our social media or ask your bartender for details of what’s current when you’re in.

Plus we’ve refreshed our house cocktails and house tonics list recently, with some incredible new drinks and fresh takes on old favourites which have been proving popular. If you’ve not tried them already, drop in and enjoy one!

Christmas gift options

Finally if you’re looking for perfect present ideas, why not purchase a gift card or a copy of Relish North West Second Helping cookbook. Both are the ideal stocking filler for foodies and discerning diners! Last postage dates for either is Tuesday 19th December, after which you will only be able to pick up in person from the restaurant!

Once again we’re proud to be joining many other great local and national establishments in supporting StreetSmart, the brilliant charity focused on the homeless in our area. StreetSmart homeless help logo

StreetSmart is a simple, smart scheme which is focused on supporting local organisations which help the homeless in Greater Manchester. This year, rather than asking you to add a discretionary contribution to your bill, we’re making a direct £1 contribution for every table served between December 1st – December 31st.

Of course, if you’d like to make your own donation, you can still do so via StreetSmart’s JustGiving page.

Every single penny contributes directly to the work being done in Greater Manchester to enable homeless people to build a better life for themselves.
