Once again El Gato Negro is delighted to be supporting Hospitality Action’s Northern Polo Day fundraiser on Sunday 24 June. Held at the beautiful Cheshire Polo Club in Little Budworth, near Tarporley, this is a brilliant opportunity to raise funds for our leading industry charity.

Simon is one of three award-winning chefs from the North West (alongside Andrew Nutter of Nutter’s Restaurant and Sean Sutton, Head Chef at The Alderley Restaurant) who are contributing a superb three course meal for guests to accompany an afternoon of polo. After the success of last year’s inaugural event Simon says

Last year’s Charity Polo event was a brilliant day and I’m really happy to re-join forces with Andrew and Sean for round two. Hospitality Action is a great organisation, providing invaluable support to hundreds of people in the industry year after year. They can only do this with the help of generous fundraisers however and so we ask everyone to get behind the event and dig deep so that we can smash last year’s figure!

The event begins with a drink and canapé reception on the lawns of the prestigious Cheshire Polo Club, before the chef’s lunch is prepared. Guests will then watch a fabulous fast-paced polo match prior to ending the day with an afternoon cream tea in the marquee. It promises to be a glorious celebration of the best of British gastronomy and tradition.

The lunch menu comprises
  • Andrew Nutter’s starter: Pan-seared sea bass with lemon and fermented black garlic, heritage potato, samphire and sauce vierge dressing.
  • Sean Sutton’s main: Aged sirloin of Cumbria beef, smoked cheek and black truffle jus
  • Simon Shaw’ dessert: Classic lemon tart with fresh raspberries and Italian meringue

With the support of three of the region’s top chefs, it’s set to be a fantastic day, full of great gastronomy and entertainment, all while helping to raise money for those in the industry who need it most.

Once again we’re proud to be joining many other great local and national establishments in supporting StreetSmart, the brilliant charity focused on the homeless in our area. StreetSmart homeless help logo

StreetSmart is a simple, smart scheme which is focused on supporting local organisations which help the homeless in Greater Manchester. This year, rather than asking you to add a discretionary contribution to your bill, we’re making a direct £1 contribution for every table served between December 1st – December 31st.

Of course, if you’d like to make your own donation, you can still do so via StreetSmart’s JustGiving page.

Every single penny contributes directly to the work being done in Greater Manchester to enable homeless people to build a better life for themselves.

El Gato Negro and our chef Patron Simon Shaw is proud to be supporting Hospitality Action’s inaugural Charity Polo Day on Sunday 25 June. Held at the beautiful Cheshire Polo Club in Little Budworth, near Tarporley, this is a superb opportunity to raise funds for the leading charity in our industry, which celebrates its 180th birthday this year.

Simon will be one of three award-winning chefs from the North-West (along with Sean Sutton, Head Chef at The Alderley Restaurant and Andrew Nutter of Nutter’s Restaurant) who are volunteering their time and resources to create an incredible three course meal for guests during an afternoon of polo.

The event begins with a Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée Champagne and canapé reception on the lawns of the prestigious Cheshire Polo Club, before the chef’s lunch is prepared. Guests will then watch a fabulous fast-paced polo match –The Henbury Cup – prior to ending the day with an afternoon cream tea in the marquee. It promises to be a glorious celebration of the best of British gastronomy and tradition.

Unique auction

That’s not all. As part of a fundraising auction to be held on the day, Simon is also offering his services for a unique experience, with one-to-one training and a meal for the successful bidder. If you’ve ever wanted to enjoy a personal chef and the magic of El Gato Negro at home, this is your chance to bid for an incredible one-off experience.

I’m offering a tutored cookery lesson and dinner, for up to six guests, at a location of your choosing. El Gato Negro will provide my services, all the ingredients for the demonstration and the dinner, plus staff. Wine and other drinks would be provided by the successful bidder.

StreetSmart restaurateurs in Manchester

Alongside some of Manchester’s best establishments we’re proud to be supporting a fantastic charity initiative for the rest of 2016: StreetSmart.

It’s a brilliantly simple, clever scheme and is focused on supporting local organisations which help the homeless in Greater Manchester. Between December 1st – December 31st we’ll be adding a discretionary 2.5% service charge onto each bill. Our customers get to enjoy great food and know they’re helping StreetSmart do something great too. Every single penny we raise contributes directly to the work being done in Greater Manchester to enable homeless people to build a better life for themselves.

Simon Shaw, founder and Chef Patron at El Gato Negro said: “We are delighted to be taking part in StreetSmart and through this campaign want to support those charities working locally to get people off the streets and integrated back into society. It’s a simple way for us to join this worthy cause and at a time of year when the focus for people is very much on giving. People can really make a difference whilst enjoying themselves with a small charge on their bill.”

Please take the opportunity to have a real impact on the community in our area, and help us support StreetSmart in 2016. Thank you! StreetSmart logo

El Gato Negro are very proud to announce that we’re official supporters of Action Against Hunger’s #lovefoodgivefood campaign this autumn to help #EndChildHunger.

We believe in a world without child hunger, which is why we’re joining hundreds of restaurants across the UK to raise vital funds for the #lovefoodgivefood campaign.

Black Cat with pound coin for Action Against Hunger
For the next six weeks, throughout September and until World Food Day on Sunday 16th October,  we’ll be adding a discretionary £1 donation to each food bill – both in the restaurant and the bar areas – to contribute to this campaign. Together our contributions can
help transform lives overseas.

Thank you in advance for all your support and for helping us make a difference this autumn.

egn_cvsrt_presentation We had a visit from Pete, Karen & Meg the rescue dog from Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team earlier this month. Simon was delighted to present a cheque for £500 based on the generous donations from our customers since we launched our campaign this summer. That, plus the donations from the collection box has taken this year’s contributions to over £700! Thanks everyone for supporting such a worthy local cause.
However we’re not finished yet: can you help us hit £1000 by the end of the year? Dig deep please and make a donation when you dine with us. Look out for Simon on New Year’s Eve; he’ll be shaking the collection box and persuading guests to give generously. It’s CVSRT’s busiest season so let’s do everything we can to help!
