Head Chef

We’re looking for talented, ambitious candidates for the position of Head Chef to join our our award-winning kitchen at El Gato Negro. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly successful business, with a great reputation and exciting future plans, and prospects of further career progression.
Your attributes
  • work confidently and consistently to the highest standards with excellent attention to detail
  • exhibit exceptional leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • demonstrate previous experience of Bib Gourmand or AA Rosette standard or higher
  • knowledge of Spanish cuisine desirable but not essential
  • fully conversant complying with all relevant legislation including food hygiene, COSHH, and HACCP
  • strong organisational and financial skills
  • excellent references and ability to show stability in previous roles
Your responsibilities
  • management; lead direction and development of kitchen team
  • menu development: full autonomy of specials, and input to main menu
  • financial; dish costings, purchasing; managing gross profit targets, controlling all aspects of purchasing,
  • record-keeping: food safety, managing wastage and breakages, stock taking



Job description: Meeting and greeting of guests; escorting guests to their tables; navigating ResDiary (online booking system) to maximise covers; working with host team to ensure walk ins and bookings are organised in the most efficient way possible.

Candidate criteria: Organised; works well under pressure; warm and friendly nature; able to work within a team; well presented.



Job description: Making and developing cocktails; serving guests; aiding fellow bartenders; adhering to the ‘bar bible’; setting up and breaking up bar efficiently; maintain an organised and tidy cellar; ensure bar backs carry out their duties; cash handling.

Candidate criteria: Bar experience beneficial but not essential; ability to multi serve guests; able to maintain a clean and tidy work environment; to work within a team; excellent personable skills, including an ability to talk to anyone.


Server (full time and part time)

Job description: Take food and drinks orders; serve food and drinks to guests; aid fellow team members with their tables where required; build up good rapport with guests.

Candidate criteria: Excellent time management; warm and friendly nature; professional attitude at all times; ability to prioritise tasks at hand; able to work under pressure and in a busy environment; able to work in a team; great personable skills; establishing when to delegate certain tasks to fellow colleagues.


Bar Back

Job description: Aid the bartender in maintaining cleanliness and upkeep of the bar; maintain glasswash machine and cleanliness of glasses; manage drinks deliveries and ensure stock is stored safely and efficiently; ensure bar is fully stocked.

Candidate criteria: Physically fit; ability to work quickly and under pressure; organised and tidy; able to think on their feet; excellent attention to detail



Job description: Run food and drinks to all tables/floors; aid servers and bartenders when required; clear and re-set tables ready for service.

Candidate criteria: Able to multi-task; demonstrate initiative to see what needs done without being asked; able to prioritise tasks needing done; warm and friendly nature.
